Myshuno! Prompt #13: The Hollywood blacklist

Summary: Someone worries about the repercussions of his actions.

There were some mornings when the headlines in the paper made him want to squirm, but he resisted the urge at all costs. It would never do for his family to know his true feelings about what was going on in Simerica, how the government was pulling out all the stops to root out the Red Scourge within its midst.
Their latest target was Simmywood. After the Simmywood Ten had refused to testify before the House Committee on Un-Simerican Activities citing their First Amendment rights, the President of the Motion Picture Association of Simerica had declared he would never hire a Simmunist. Then the Actor’s Guild decided to make its officers take a non-Simmunism pledge. Now Congress had voted to cite the Ten for contempt, which led to the MPAS President to announce that no one in Simmywood would hire them until the contempt charges were cleared up and they swore they were not members of the Simmunist party. Effectively, they’d been blacklisted.
As he refolded the newspaper, taking great care that it didn’t betray his shaking hands, he looked around the breakfast table at his family. Would he soon face the same fate as those out West, his name on a list of known Simmies, thus making him unemployable? If that happened, how would he support his family? Why was everyone so against Simmunism anyway? If they’d only take the time to learn what it was really all about, maybe they wouldn’t be so terrified of it.
His wife noticed his furrowed brow. “Is everything all right, dear?”
He quickly rearranged his expression into one that was more pleasant. “Of course. Why wouldn’t they be?”
