Nice update.

I am glad to see that Viola's calmed down a little although the fact that Sterling had to play the man card in order for her to even start reconsider her position. Then the whole mother in law chat, yeah. Viola needed a wake up call.

I totally get the whole Alice conundrum. She wants one guy but he doesn't know she exists or at least acts that way. Being taken for granted sucks and seriously that is that Nicky was doing. I'm glad she had friends there to help her. But still...

I am glad to see you updating again and YAY radios!

Thank you.

It was good to have Viola see that she overreacted. It wasn't fun for Sterling to have to play the man card. After I decided Melanie was okay after playing the asylum I wanted to give her a chance to redeem herself in the legacy as well.

Alice was in a tough spot, and yes, Nick was taking her for granted. Would it have been better if he'd come to the realization on his own? Yes, but I'm sure he won't make the same mistake twice.

Thanks, and yay radios indeed. The kids (except Nick and his lack of playful points) are always dancing to it. Only another generation before I get TVs too! :D

I'm glad the family is once again reunited, and Nick (not Nicky!) and Alice are so very sweet together :)

It's nice to have everyone back together again. Nick and Alice are very sweet together. I can't wait to show them more in future chapters.

I really do like how the whole situation with Viola was handled. That in the end, not everything is back to normal but it's on the right track.

I also loved how Nick and Alice's relationship start out, can't wait to see how everything plays out with these two especially during the war.

Thank you. Obviously, it does take more than an "I'm sorry" to fix things, but it does help move things in the right direction.

I'm glad you liked how Nick and Alice got together. I'm looking forward to developing their relationship and showing how they fair during wartime.

Sorry this is late! I read it when it came out and apparently forgot to leave a comment then.

So glad that Nicky and Shirly are allowed to play again. I'm sorry Stirling had to put his foot down that way but Viola was being completely unreasonable at that point. I liked the conversation you had between her and Melanie. There really were quite a few parallels between their reactions to various events in their lives. I'm glad Melanie could talk some sense into Viola and that things are on the mend, albeit slowly.

Dotty and Danny are super cute!

The conversation between Jefferson and James has me worried. I know you rolled for who is making it through WWII and who isn't and the comment about the house not having to pass to the first born is making me worry about Nick's safety!

I love what you did with Nick and Alice this chapter! Poor girl! Shirley is awesome and I hope she appreciates Walter's help with the whole Alice/Nick situation. I grinned when Nick and Alice got together both times I read your chapter. Also, I love that James had to help Nick figure out what he wanted. Cindy is going to love her new coat!

Don’t worry about being a little late. Comments are still comments, no matter when they come.

It is nice to have Nick and Shirley get to be friends again. It’s not good that Sterling had to put his foot down, no, but it had to be done. Viola was just being stubborn. It just made sense to me to have Melanie be the one to say a proverbial “WTF?” to Viola, since Melanie knew EXACTLY what it was like to be in that situation. And things are slowly going back to normal. It just wouldn’t have made sense for it to happen any other way.

Dotty and Danny are great. I can’t wait to show you more about them as they grow up.

The conversation between Jefferson and James was necessary for several reasons. Yes, the war is looming and there’s always the possibility that someone won’t come home, but times are also changing. The next generation, gen 8, will be involved in the next wave of the women’s rights movement. Times are a changing!

:D Nick just needed a good kick to see what he was missing, that’s all. Shirley is awesome, and I don’t think Walter’s help will go unnoticed for too long. Well, James realized that it was a sucker bet, and he does want his son to be happy. So it only made sense that he’d steer Nick in the right direction. Cindy will love her new coat.

Thanks for commenting!

Comment catch up FTW!

Oh, first of all, your link on Dreamwidth to comment on LJ leads to the Chapter 24 entry, not this one. But I found this one on my own. :P

Yay for meeting your Cremo goal! You did better than a lot of us. :D

I'm glad you mentioned the Cyrus thing, cause it does make sense...though I also think Viola is being rather unreasonable AND grasping at straws.

You know, it's interesting to see Sterling put his foot down and the ramifications of that. First off, the fact that he CAN do that - because in the 1930s, the man of the family still had that level of control. Did Viola promise to obey him when they got married? Even if she didn't, she really can't stop him. Second, and on the other hand, she can still punish him for not doing what she wants - not talking to him, making him sleep on the couch, that sort of thing. So it's a give and take, and while Sterling ultimately has the power, Viola does have her ways of getting him to do what she wants. Also, I suspect that they really do discuss most major decisions as a pair; it's just that in this case Viola wouldn't listen to reason at all.

I'm glad for Shirley and Nicky that they're allowed to play together again, and for Alice that she's being included as well.

Yay for James doing well at his new job!

I'm glad Melanie talked some sense into Viola. She needed it, seriously, and Melanie really was the best person for the job. Yay for Viola and Sterling getting along again!

*shakes head* James and Viola are both muchly with the tempers, aren't they?

Yay for Nicky becoming a teenager!

Dotty + Danny = uber cute.

It makes sense to give your sims the option to no longer have to stick to first born male as the heir. Admittedly, you've been lucky, but Nicky's first kid won't be born until the 1940s and won't inherit until the 1960s - and by that point inheritance wasn't as linked to primogeniture as it used to be. If you weren't doing historical, people might think you were ignoring your handicaps...but historically, losing the handicaps is more logical.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but I really like Alice's teen outfit. Shirley's too.

Shirley = utterly gorgeous as a teen, btw.

Oh, Alice. He's just an oblivious boy. All you need to do is make it clear that you're interested!

I'm surprised Rosalie was actually willing to sit on the grass!

Lucky for Shirley that her plan actually worked out. That sort of date-someone-else-to-make-the-one-you-want-jealous fails at least as often as it succeeds, or leads to messiness before it succeeds. This one turned out quite well.

Love that James realizes he's going to lose the bet but helps Nick anyway. It's the right thing to do.

And much yay for them getting together for real! :D

Thanks for letting me know about the link. It’s fixed now.

It was great to meet the CreMo goal, that’s for sure, especially after missing it by just a day last time around.

Yeah, after someone (it might have been you, actually) pointed out that Sterling should have offered Cyrus the job since he didn’t have one at all, I figured I should explain Sterling’s thought process. And yes, Viola IS being unreasonable and grasping at straws.

It is interesting once in a while to remind the readers that we’re not in the modern world (as if the clothing and lack of electronics can let you forget). Viola does not strike me as the type to use “obey” in her vows, but the facts were that the man was in charge, and the woman had to do what they wanted. But yes, Viola had her ways of showing her displeasure. I’m pretty sure that most of my couples are more modern than they should be, with making decisions together and the like. And yes, under normal circumstances Sterling would have discussed it with Viola, but she’s being pigheaded.

Shirley and Nicky are great friends, and it is great to show that. And it’s nice that Shirley and Alice get along as well.

James is an excellent shopkeeper. Despite his temper, he really is a people person.

Melanie was the best person to knock some sense into Viola. And yes, it’s great to have Sterling and Viola getting along again.

*sigh* James and Viola both have 1 nice point, hence their tempers. But Viola, unlike James, will hold a grudge. James blows up and then it’s all sunshine again.

Nick is an awesome teenager.

Dotty and Danny are so adorable. I can’t wait to give them a little more of a role in the story.

*nods* Yes, even though I started out with certain handicaps, since I’m not playing for points it makes sense to drop them as history evolves. I have been VERY lucky so far (gen 4 is the only generation when I didn’t have a male firstborn). I’m kind of hoping that Nick & Alice’s first born IS a girl, because that will make for excellent plotz. But I’ll see what they throw me before I get ahead of myself.

I really love Alice’s teen outfit too. It might be slightly ahead of where I am, but it suited her so well I had to use it. It is MY version of history, after all. Shirley’s is great, though I wish it were accurate for her to wear pants. She’s not a dress kind of girl.

Oh, and she is GORGEOUS. I have no idea what it is, but WOW.

Poor Alice. Nick is too oblivious. Of course, with the time they’re in, it was more acceptable for the boy to make the first move.

Heh. If they made three seat park benches, they wouldn’t have been on the grass.

It is lucky for Shirley that the plan worked. I think it worked because she knew that all Nick needed was to see that Alice wouldn’t be alone if he didn’t pull his head out of his rear, and because it didn’t go on for very long. Of course, it will also open the door for her and Walter to get together. :D

James, despite his flaws and desire to win that bet, really does want his kids to be happy. He saw how miserable Matthew made his father, and he doesn’t want to be at all like that. Besides, once he realizes he’s going to lose he figures he might as well LOSE, if you know what I mean.

And they lived happily ever after…with a bit of angst in between.
