silverbellelj: (Sims - Frustrated Phily)

Pretty sure my game is borked.

I'm not really that surprised.  It's been 2 years of pretty hard playing since I did my last install.  It's nothing that's making the game unplayable, but I'm thinking it might be time to reinstall.

For one, I've got some lovely new clothing options showing up in the buy catalog.

(I've got a dormie who spawned with the naked outfit).

And there are the lovely duplicate outerwear outfits.  I'm pretty sure this is an issue with my core game files, hence why I think I need to reinstall.

I don't think the Legacy 'hood has been affected, as there's nothing strange going on there.  But if I'm going to reinstall, I'm contemplating doing a rebuild.

But why?  Yes, I only have 2 more generations to play and then 1 to just get born, and I can probably get through it in this 'hood.  But I'm dissatisfied with the townies & NPCs the game spawned the last time I rebuilt (I have a lot of Sims that are duplicates of each other, right down to the clothes they're wearing), and nearly all my townies are Romance.  Not that I have an issue with Romance Sims (especially since no woohoo except try for baby is about to go away), but I'd like some more variety.  Plus, it will give me the chance to make my very 19th century neighborhoods into something more modern, considering I'm well into the 20th century.

So, what does this mean?  Well, I was contemplating building a separate 'hood to film the war chapters in, so I could do all kinds of stuff to get the pictures I needed without borking the main 'hood, but now I'm thinking I'll just shoot the war chapters in the old 'hood, and take up with the new 'hood from there.  I have a blank template from the last rebuild that I can start from, so all I'll really need to do is extract houses and Sims.  And since I'm not playing with ghosts on the lot, I'm thinking I'll just find dummy tombstones for the cemetery and not import any of the dead Sims.

TL;DR:  Game is doing funny shit, so I'm going to reinstall and rebuild.  But the next chapter and the 5 (at the moment) war chapters will happen in the old hood, and legacy will charge forward from there.

Ugg, it's so frustrating when this stuff happens. I had a weird outfit like the first circled but it wasn't maxis so I figured a mesh from another outfit was interfering. I don't suppose it could just be some kind of default file making things look wonky?

Good luck with it all.

It is very frustrating. The only default that I have is for the maid outfits, and I don't think they'd do that.

I was also a bad girl and didn't realize that I should write-protect the game files, so I'm sure something got messed up along the way. Reinstall will be a pain, but hopefully it will solve the issue.

Yes do write protect everything, especially the objects folders in the core files. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit and write protected seems to come as the default setting.

I have the same problem with those outerwear outfits showing and then the outfit is invisible when I click on them. It's a borked mesh or texture file, and it's been plaguing my game for a couple of years now. I just can't find the sucker! After I reinstalled my game last year it came along with the downloads folder. I'd delete everything and start from scratch, but most of the stuff I've got (that has taken me years to compile) comes from sites that don't exist anymore!

I think the naked outfits are caused by mesh problems, too? I've seen that as well, but was able to delete the outfit I'd just downloaded and it went away.

I really hope it's not game breaking! D:

See, I have it even when I pull my downloads folder and saved sims folder, so it's *got* to be something with the game files. My downloads are hyper-organized (they have to be, what with me constantly putting CC in and taking CC out as I move through time), so I feel pretty confident in saying the issue is not related to that.

Yeah, I can delete the outfit (which shows up properly on the Sim if I select it!), but it comes back the next time I open the game.

I'm just going to pick a day and reinstall the whole shebang and hope that fixes the issue.

I'm so sorry! I hope that if it is breaking, I hope everything can be salvaged!

It's such a sad moment when you spend years of your life compiling things, and see it break. :(

Eh, it happens. I should be able to save my downloads folder, and I can rebuild the legacy 'hood if I have to. I'm sure it'll be fixed in pretty short order. So all in all it's not that big a deal, just an annoyance. But thanks for the kind words.

Ouch! At least you have a workable plan, and you can work on the rebuild while also filming/staging/etc. *hugs*

Yeah, it sucks. I was hoping to get through the rest of the legacy without any problems, but I can deal. As you say, at least I know what I need to do, and I can work on things in the meantime. It's just annoying that I'm so close and then something like this happens.

...oh dear. This is the same sort of thing *exactly* that happened before my game stopped working and my computer carked it.

At least you have a plan.

It's very annoying since I'm relatively close to finishing, and I was hoping to make it through the end of the legacy without any real issues. But fixing it before I loose everything seems to be the best plan.

Sorry about the borkedness. Hate when that happens. I think I spend more time fixing my game than playing it. Fortunately you won't lose anything important and theres something to be said for starting fresh. Good luck :)

Thanks. It's annoying when you spend more time worrying that something's going to break than you do enjoying the game. Now that I've decided what to do, I am kind of looking forward to a bit of a fresh start. I can maybe try out some new face templates, give the townies some recessive genes, and normal-ish names. So it should be exciting and fun, even thought it's still a pain.

Oh dear, that's not sounding good. My first thought was a cc conflict, but I also knew that you would have thought of that too. If it's still happening with all your cc pulled, then yeah, it's sounding like a re-install is on the cards. Good luck with it, and trying to keep things going until after the war chapters are over, sounds like a good idea.

It's bumming me out that I'll have to reinstall, but I'm now looking forward to the chance to make my game look a bit more the way I want it to. At least I'll be able to get a few more chapters out of this 'hood, so I can rebuild as I'm working so (hopefully) there won't be too much of a lag between things.
