Glad you decided to leave a comment for this chapter! Alice’s take on being the “Greatest Generation” is loosely based on something my grandmother once said to me, and I always agreed with her. Yeah, that generation did a bunch of great stuff, but each generation does great things in their own way.
It would have made for good plot if Nick had died instead of Edward, but overall I’m glad he got to come home and have more babies with Alice. I may do a AU drabble about Alice getting that telegram instead of Dotty someday, as I did have that in my head just in case.
It was pretty sad about Dotty, and yes, you’re right to have “A League of Their Own” in mind with that scene. I happened to see that not long after I ran the randomizer, and thought it would be a good way of building some suspense there.
