At long last, the penultimate chapter of my war saga is finished! Click on the picture to read Alice & Nick's portion of the War Years Chapter. Comments can be left here or on the thread at Boolprop. I hope you enjoy!
I've been kind of crap for leaving comments lately. But I feel I need to here. Loved the chapter I like Alice's take on being the "Greatest Generation" I mean who decides that and aren't all generations great in their own way.
It would have been interesting if Nick had been the one to die and he came close. I know you would have done well with it. Still it's sad about Dotty. I got a "League of their own" vibe from the scene where Dotty got her letter.
My brain is kind of fried, but good chapter and I'm glad to see Nick makes it home.
Glad you decided to leave a comment for this chapter! Alice’s take on being the “Greatest Generation” is loosely based on something my grandmother once said to me, and I always agreed with her. Yeah, that generation did a bunch of great stuff, but each generation does great things in their own way.
It would have made for good plot if Nick had died instead of Edward, but overall I’m glad he got to come home and have more babies with Alice. I may do a AU drabble about Alice getting that telegram instead of Dotty someday, as I did have that in my head just in case.
It was pretty sad about Dotty, and yes, you’re right to have “A League of Their Own” in mind with that scene. I happened to see that not long after I ran the randomizer, and thought it would be a good way of building some suspense there.
Thanks for the comment! Steven is adorable, and I can’t wait to start writing about him and his brothers and sisters to come!
I haven't had to reach for my tissues so much during a sim story before. It felt very realistic and I wasn't at all sure who was going to get that telegram. It was very well done. I'm glad I had the time this afternoon to read through properly. Looking forward to seeing more.
Aw, didn’t mean to make you cry (though it’s oddly satisfying to hear that I was able to elicit such a reaction!). I’m glad you felt that it was realistic, and I wanted you to be worried about who that telegram was for.
OMG! What a great way to start my day! First off awesome job with this. it read like a compelling short story. Very well done. I've spent the last hour reading and hosing down my keyboard. I swear it'll never be the same. *shakes head in shame* You turned me into a blubbering wreck this time around. Where do I even start?
I cried at steven's birth, at nicky's imagining christmas at home, at D-Day, at every surrender, at Dotty's husband's death (didn't even know the guy but cried like a baby), Gilbert's death and poor Taddy's breakdown, at nicky's homecoming... it'd prob'ly be easier to list all the things that didn't make me cry. It'd be a shorter list, that's for sure *rolls eyes*
And despite all the spoilers and knowing Nick was coming home didn't lesson the tension in the air or the ache and worry for his safety. I was with the family experiencing their emotions and suffering their sorrows as well as celebrating their joys :)
There's such a balance of emotions during this period of time. I'd always felt like alice when it came to the dropping of atomic bombs on a civilian population. I never thought it was something to celebrate or be proud of and yet, by that time in the story I could understand where James was coming from too. I mean, the war had to end. the Japanese government took a gamble with their own people's lives and it's such a shame it came to that.
This whole thing was just so beautifully handled and touching. I've told you before that the Bradfords don't feel like pixels to me, they're like a family whose tale I've been following through history and I genuinely love them :)
Anyway, I loved this and you totally made my day. I've only one question though, why doesn't anyone seem to like Rosalie? I used to think it was just Shirley who couldn't stand her but now it seems that even Alice doesn't like her childhood friend. Rosalie doesn't seem too bad. A little pompous at times but she came across as someone with some endearing qualities, at least to me.
Oh and it was fun to see Asher's cameo. Weird, even with the different defaults I recognized him right away. Boy is he ugly with the regular sims 2 skin lol. Awesome poetic use of Zane and Quinn.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it. Apparently, I should have put a “tissues required” disclaimer in the introduction.
There were quite a few times when I got a little misty myself while writing this. It probably wasn’t an easy time to live through.
Did I spoil that Nick was coming home? I thought I’d done a pretty good job of keeping that under wraps, though I’ve talked about other plot stuff. I wanted to keep that a secret until the chapter actually came out. Oh, well. I’m glad you liked it either way.
There was quite a lot of emotion, yes. I’ve always tried to play both sides of any issue, so of course I was going to do it for things like the atomic bombs. It’s a hard thing to think about, sacrificing some lives so others may live. I’m certainly glad that I wasn’t in the position to make a decision like that, because I don’t know that I could do it.
Aw, I’m glad you think of the Bradfords as a real family. I try to make them be representative of an average family just going through time.
Ah, Rosalie. I don’t think that anyone dislikes her, per say, but they can only handle so much of her at any given time. She’s very opinionated, and keeps up the appearance of a perfect wife and mother at all costs. She is a real person who has real feelings, but she very rarely lets her guard down so that others can see her vulnerabilities. If she’d let her friends in a bit more it might be easier for them to understand where she comes from. It also didn’t help that Alice and Shirley harbored some resentment about the fact that Bruce was safe in the states while their men were overseas in the thick of it. I think you’ll come to understand Rosalie a bit more once you see what else I have in store for her.
Asher was a very good extra, and I’m glad you recognized him. I did keep his hair the same, even if it wasn’t exactly army regulation. I’m glad you liked Zane and Quinn’s roles as well; the idea came to me and they fit so nicely it had to be written that way.
Loved this chapter. It was filled with emotion and you did it all so well. I felt like I was riding the ups and downs right along with the family.
I like how you touched on some of the more horrific parts of the war. They were important enough that they had to be mentioned, but they would have been really, really difficult to set up and film.
I'm so glad that Nick survived! It was so hard to guess from the other (cryptic) drabbles you've done whether he was going to make it or not. Steven is adorable too.
I read it late last night - just before bed - and it made such an impression that it got incorporated into my dreams!
Thanks. I really wanted the readers to feel the emotions along with the family, so I’m glad to hear that it worked.
It was a challenge to figure out how to incorporate some of the worst parts of the whole war. I figured mentioning them was a good enough compromise, since I knew there was no way I could film any of that.
I’ve felt so bad making everyone worry about Nick that it’s a relief to finally have that part of the story out in the open. I hope that everything else makes sense now, and I’m very much looking forward to finishing up the last two small installments of the war, and moving the legacy forward, and giving Steven a few siblings to play with (I bet I can get some more cuites out of Nick & Alice).
Heh. This whole plotline has been haunting my dreams for a while, so I can understand what happened to you last night.
Loved your update! I agree with all the comments above. I'll try not to repeat all of them. :) So glad Nick survived, I was really worried! You're right when you say that it would be a really great point of view to write from. But I like Nick and Alice just too much to have wanted him to die.(And secretly I'm very happy he didn't die in the 'simdennes', I would have probably wanted to pack my bags and move to another country.)
I really enjoyed the medical part. The moment when Nick's patient dies was really moving, you captured Nick's emotions beautifully.
I'm also glad Danny is still alive, loved the bickering between him and Nick about who had to salute who.
I think pretty much everyone is glad that Nick survived. I wanted to create that suspense as to whether or not he’d make it back, so I’m glad that you were worried. It would have made for great plot, but I’m very much looking forward to having him and Alice have lots more babies.
I’m glad you liked the scene where Nick lost his first patient. Nick, as a Sim, has 10 nice points, so I knew that losing a patient would hit him pretty hard.
Yup, Danny’s still around. I have plans for him too, but Dotty gets her chapter first. Heh, I’m really looking forward to writing Nick & Danny seeing each other for the first time after the war, and how they react to each other (and if they get into an argument over who needs to salute whom).
Steven is adorable! I can’t wait to see what his brothers/sisters look like.
I was seriously scared for Nick for a while there precisely because I knew Alice was pregnant when he left, but I am glad he made it and that he and Steven get the chance to really know each other. Poor Dotty, though. I do hope she will get to make that grand tour and maybe find someone else if she wants! And I'm glad Danny's all right, too. Rosalie continues to be insufferable, ugh.
You also had some really excellent pictures this chapter. Mad props to you for putting all that effort in.
You were supposed to feel scared for Nick – I’m an evil person and I wanted to make people worry about whether or not he’d come back. I too am pretty glad that he survived and will get a chance to know Steven (and any other little ones that come along). Dotty will be okay in the long run. She will get to travel quite a bit, and she’ll find someone to keep her company, eventually. Yup, Danny’s okay, and you’ll get a teaser about his story at the end of Dotty’s chapter. Rosalie is pretty insufferable, yes, but I’m not done with her story yet. I tried really hard with some of the pictures, so I’m glad you liked thim.
OMG! *breaths HUGE sigh of relief* Holy Cow Heidi this was an awesome chapter! You took me through the roller coaster of emotions (and you still made me tear up even though Nick made it).
I loved all of the letters between Nick and his family and how you dealt with the passage of time.
I am completely heartbroken for Dotty but utterly relieved that it was her husband and not Nick. Now we know whose grave she'll be visiting in Europe. I was definitely holding my breath in that scene though I thought it wasn't Nick since we hadn't seen him get injured yet.
I definitely teared up at Nick's homecoming. It was nice to see everyone have a reason to celebrate and it is good to see Dotty starting to recover. I'm glad James was able to help Nick on his way to healing as well.
Oh man he rolled #3? Wow that was close wasn't it?
Brilliant job! Can't wait for the last two installments!
I think everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief when they finished the chapter. I did want it to be a bit of a roller coaster; I can’t lie. It was kind of nice to do the letters again, and it really was a good way to mark the passage of time and to fill in some of the blanks.
Poor Dotty indeed. I certainly understand that you were relieved it was Dotty’s husband and not Nick. Yes, that drabble I wrote for Myshuno where I mentioned her visiting a grave in SimFrance is Edward’s. I had hoped that scene would make people worry for Nick, even if they knew the injury was coming and it hadn’t appeared in the chapter yet.
Aw, Nick’s homecoming was pretty sweet. I’m sure the family was very happy to have cause for celebration after four years of turmoil. I hope Dotty’s chapter will give you a sense of how she started to make that recovery. I’m glad you liked the scene between James and Nick; despite his gruff exterior, James really does care about his family.
I'm happy that Nick made it out alive. I know how tempting it can be to kill them for maximum emotional impact! Although I must admit, however grudgingly, that I do occasionally like a happy ending too.
Also, is there ever a time where Zane doesn't kill Quinn (or just about)?
I think everyone is happy that Nick made it out alive. It was tempting to kill him off for plot, but the randomizer spared him, and I’m glad it did. I’m glad they get to have a happy ending.
Heh. That little plot bunny popped into my head and it was too good not use. I know I said that my extras would “remember” their home legacies, but it was nice to be able to put them into roles that fit their past experiences.
Yeah, Nick shouldn't worry about short letters - I think they're happy just to know he's alive and doing well! Besides, he's still writing, which is one up on various people I knew at sleepaway camp - one wrote all of his letters BEFORE he even left for camp, then just stuck them in envelopes and sent them off once he was there, and another would write a big M on a piece of paper to let her parents know she was alive and safe but not in the mood to write to them. Nick is positively verbose in comparison.
You know, one of these days someone needs to write a story where a woman feeling sick and everyone thinking she's pregnant...isn't her being pregnant. I think we're all guilty of that sin. :P
I love how vain James and Cindy are - well, not vain, but very attached to how their hair looks. It's amusing.
Smart of Nick to amend his will, no matter how much it sucks that he had to. He's right to do so, though, and probably right not to tell Cindy about it - she's very...well, I think she's refusing to think about the possibility that her children might not come home because it freaks her out. Poor her. Of course, then James ends up telling her anyway...I guess she handled it fine, probably by concentrating on how Alice would feel. Definitely poor Alice.
I am highly amused at all the ways you find to tell us where sims are while "not alerting the censors." :P
War does offer opportunities, doesn't it? People learn so much so fast, things are invented and improved very quickly...but the price that's paid for all those improvements is so high, I guess it's a debate on how much it's worth it.
Heh. James is becoming all law-abiding in his old age. :P
As I said before, I'm glad you mentioned the Holocaust (as it was such a major part of the war) but at the same time that you didn't go super in depth with it. It would be hell to film, and even though we don't rate our sims stories...there are topics that do deserve warnings, and showing sims in those conditions would be one of them. Also, I'm glad for Nick's sake that he didn't have to experience it much more first-hand than hearing about it, because it is something that probably affected him for the rest of his life even more than the war alone did - and I'm glad James helped him work through it once he was home.
Nick's reaction to Dotty's beau = highly amusing.
Yay baby! :D
Neither Nick nor Danny ever got to meet Dotty's husband, did they? I suppose that happens in war, but...ouch. I guess all I can say is, at least Nick got to meet his KID.
...I have forgotten a lot of the more distant cousins. Which one is Edith again?
I really do want to see where you take Rosalie, because NO ONE is totally happy with her right now, which...says something about her.
I have to admit I wasn't worried at the telegram: I knew it was Dotty's husband and not Nick. You weren't going to kill Nick less than halfway through the chapter, you weren't going to kill Nick without at least one more letter from him or one more scene with him in battle, and you weren't going to kill Nick without that scene you'd written for...myshuno, I think, happening. It was just too early for it to be Nick, and you'd already stated he basically wasn't in danger.
I am curious about what you're going to do with Dotty's chapter, since you've already covered so much of what she went through in this one. I mean, you kind of had to - anything that happened to her husband was going to affect James and Cindy, and therefore Alice - but now we know that her husband already dies. So where will you go? I'm curious.
It also makes me wonder how you decided the chapter order. As Nick is the oldest, he technically should go first, but...you chose Rosalie because of Gilbert, didn't you? You didn't want that to be spoiled in another chapter. And you put Danny last because his war will end last - as he's in the Pacific til the very end. What made you decide the rest of the order?
I am amused that Buzz Grunt is in the army. :P
Poor Quinn. Everyone kills him!
Ugh...losing people is not easy, but unfortunately...they're in a war. It's going to happen. I'm glad Nick found some peace with the idea, even if he'll never be happy about it.
And there's that scene in the forest. THIS is when I really started worrying about Nick, because this scene...yeah. This is what made me worried that he might die. I'm glad he didn't, but I'm also glad that you stuck to your guns with your randomization - because, yeah, we want things to be all rosy, but war is somewhat random in how it kills, so a randomizer was really the perfect way to simulate that.
Alice looks so glamorous! Loving the pillbox hat.
Poor Taddy, surrounded by everyone who's doing better than him. He seemed more together in Rosalie's chapter, probably because it was from her point of view - and he was keeping it together as much as possible for her and for Calla. It's got to suck to lose your only son, though.
It'll be interesting to see the next generation - Steven's significantly older than, well, pretty much anyone else, due to the fact that he was actually conceived before the men went to war, rather than after they returned home. But the younger part of the generation will be full of babies, for sure.
Ah, the splitting of Germany and the entrance of communism. That'll be interesting, though in a very different way from the war.
Yeah, the atomic bomb is...yeah. I guess it was going to take something big to make the Japanese surrender, but...that? And now we've been plunged forever into the risk of nuclear war and what could happen from that. And again, it's probably for the best that you didn't film that. It would have been sheer hell to film.
I'm glad Taddy and James made up.
Yay for Nick coming home and getting to meet Steven! That's got to be interesting, meeting your kid for the first time when he's already three - I mean, kids change SO fast at that age, and he really did miss it all. For good reasons, yes, but I think Nick will be happy to be home for all later kids.
After so long of seeing Nick in various uniforms, he just looks weird in normal clothing. I guess we'll have to get used to it though!
Yay second pregnancy!
Lovely long chapter, can't wait for more, and I'm glad you didn't kill Nick!
No, Nick shouldn’t worry about short letters, but he’s Nick so he does. And yes, the family is just glad know that he’s alive and well. The camp letters thing sounds like something Danny would do, actually. I may end up writing that into his chapter.
I know, I know. Sick woman = pregnancy is far too cliché. But morning sickness is the only thing we seem to get seeing as how home pregnancy tests aren’t around yet, so I have to work with what I’ve got.
No, James and Cindy are vain in a way. I think a lot of it too is that they don’t feel old yet, so they’re annoyed that their appearance suggests otherwise. I actually tried to make a custom hair color that wasn’t quite gray for Cindy when she was an elder, but it didn’t look right so she went gray.
It was smart of Nick to change his will. Not that James would have made a fuss about the baby getting the house and such, but it’s always best to have stuff like that on paper in legal terms. Yes, Cindy refuses to think about the possibility of one of her children not coming home. Yes, Cindy pushed a lot of her own worries aside in favor of focusing on what might happen with Alice. Alice certainly got the worst of a lot of it.
Heh, I’m sure the real censors would have blacked out half of what I wrote, but hey, it’s storytelling. I got to slip the history in somehow. :P
There certainly were a lot of opportunities that wouldn’t have happened otherwise if not for the war, like women working in industry and the like, and all the different inventions that came about. I guess I’m not really sure if it was all worth it in the end either.
Yup, James has “gone soft” in his old age. Plus, I think he was worried that somehow by participating in the black market he’d be taking away from his sons who really needed things.
As I’ve said before, you can’t really do a WWII story and not talk about the Holocaust in some way. At least not a honest story, IMO. I will admit that I struggled a bit with the topic, because it is warning-worth, as you say. The initial plan I had was to actually show Nick helping in the liberated camp he discusses, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it wouldn’t work because I wouldn’t be able to do it justice in Sims format. I think it says a lot about Nick in how deeply he was affected simply by seeing the aftereffects of the camp, and yes, it was probably the worst experience he had, even more than getting injured himself. It was good that James was able to get him to talk about it, because carrying that around inside would just have led to bad things.
I’m really sad that I wasn’t able to write a “Nick plays Big Brother” scene where he actually got to meet Edward, because he and James would have been on the same page in regards to Dotty’s beau.
And Steven comes along! Gen 8 is here!
No, neither Nick nor Danny got to meet Edward. Which is sad, because I think they would have ended up liking him, once they got past the fact that he was married to their younger sister. I bet it did happen in real life. But yes, it’s more important that Nick got to meet Steven.
Edith is the daughter of Asher Hutchins and his wife Vivian. Asher is Victor and Jane’s eldest, making Edith Henri’s great granddaughter.
I haz plans for Rosalie! Be patient. No one likes her because she’s bossing EVERYONE around with her Red Cross work, and even though they won’t admit it they’re a bit jealous that her husband was in the states for the duration of war and not off facing danger firsthand.
I figured that anyone who had a basic understanding of the war history and had read the Mushuno drabble would know that the telegram wasn’t for Alice. But as I said to Lark, I was watching “A League of Their Own” and it inspired that scene. As to Dotty’s chapter (which I’ve now posted), it focuses on how what happened changed her more than what actually happened. I think it’s safe to say that she’s a very different person than she was in her younger years, and it’s not just because she lost her husband.
Eh, I think we've all done the morning sickness thing. It's hard not to, since really the only times sims actually get sick like that are with morning sickness or food poisoning, and there's always that question mark baby bubble when it's a baby and never any other time. Still makes me want to try the opposite, though. :P
Yeah, filming any Holocaust stuff, even the aftermath, would be hard. Getting the emaciation to look right alone...I'm not sure it's possible.
Eh, the Quinn dying is just amusing, because I don't think he's appeared in a single story yet where he DIDN'T die. Even in the RR, where I didn't actively kill him - as you, Lark, and Ang all did - he showed up in the land of the dead as, you know, already dead. He's like...fated to die everywhere, I swear.
Babies! Definitely going to be interesting with the age difference, though.
:) I did read Dotty's chapter; you'll hopefully get a comment on that Saturday or Monday, from work (as usual).
Yeah, the morning sickness thing is hard not to do. It's almost too bad that there isn't something like colds or stomach bugs that would allow ups to throw people off. :P Just for you, I'll write Steven's wife (whoever she ends up being) getting sick and NOT being pregnant.
Yeah, there was no way to film Holocaust stuff, ever. So, I painted the picture with words, which worked.
Quinn is the Kenny of the Sims world. I don't think I need to say more than that.
Yeah, it'll be difficult with the age difference. But I'm sure it will work out.
:D I'll await your comment on Dotty's chapter eagerly.
Chapter order? Well, I wanted Nick & Alice’s to be in the middle because I figured some would view the other chapters as “interludes,” so I could put the “big stuff” there and people would still be able to pick up when the legacy resumed. Rosalie did go first because of Gil, yes. Shirley went next, because I knew Edward was going to die so I wanted to interject a little happy between some sad. And yes, Danny went last because his war ends last, and because he ended up as part of the occupying forces so he would be the last to come home.
I’m sure that Buzz Grunt would be glad to be in charge of the war department as well. :P
Well, I figured since Quinn was already “dead” it wouldn’t hurt to kill him again. Plus, I liked the idea of the juxtaposition of Zane as the chaplain. I actually talked to Ang about it, and she liked the idea.
Nick was never going to have an easy go with losing his first patient, no matter when it happened. But as a doctor, especially one in a war zone, it was inevitable. I think it will never be easy for him to lose a patient, but as you said, he’s made his peace with the fact that it will happen.
Yes, THAT scene. I wanted it to be wrenching, because Nick really did come thisclose to not coming home. I used the randomizer for the exact reason you said. War is random, and it doesn’t let you play favorites. Nick was very, very lucky.
I love the fashions of this era too. Hats totally need to make a comeback.
It was really rough for Taddy. He “seemed” more put together in Rosalie’s chapter because he was trying to hold it together for his family, and also because Rosalie often sees what she wants to, and if she didn’t want to see her father hurting…yeah. It definitely sucked for the Seiffs to lose Gilbert.
Steven will be about 3-4 years older than most of the other members of generation 8, yes. I’m still not 100% sure how all that will work out. But now that the men are home, there will be babies, babies, and MOAR babies, let me tell you.
Yup, time for Communism and the Cold War. I’m kind of looking forward to that in some ways. You know I’m going to have someone end up working for the SCIA, right?
The atomic bomb is another one of those subjects that is tough. As the argument went between Alice and James, yeah it ended the war but what was the ultimate cost? It’s another thing that there was no way to film, but you had to talk about because it was part of the war.
Of course Taddy and James made up. They’re BFFs and cousins, and they’ll quarrel but they’ll always make up in the end.
That was my favorite scene to write and film. I can only imagine what that was like for Nick and Alice. Of course Alice kept him up on his son by sending pictures and writing, but it’s not the same as being there. Nick is very much looking forward to being there for later kids, yes. Why do you think they got started on #2 so fast? :P
It is REALLY strange for me not to see Nick in a uniform of one form or another. But yes, you’ll just have to get used to it because no more military for anyone for a while.
MOAR NICK & ALICE BABIES. I can’t wait.
Thanks! I k new it was very long, but I really couldn’t have edited it down anymore. You don’t have to wait, as Dotty’s chapter’s all posted. And I’m glad that Nick lives too!!

on 2013-05-03 05:50 pm (UTC)Glad you decided to leave a comment for this chapter!
Steven is adorable, and I can’t wait to start writing about him and his brothers and sisters to come!

on 2013-05-03 05:53 pm (UTC)Aw, didn’t mean to make you cry (though it’s oddly satisfying to hear that I was able to elicit such a reaction!). I’m glad you felt that it was realistic, and I wanted you to be worried about who that telegram was for.
Thanks for commenting!

on 2013-05-03 06:12 pm (UTC)Thanks, I’m glad you liked it.

And Steven is adorable :D

on 2013-05-03 06:14 pm (UTC)Aw, thanks. There certainly wasn't anything easy about writing about the Second World War, but I'm glad you liked how I dealt with it.
Steven is too cute. I can't wait to see him grow up.

on 2013-05-03 10:14 pm (UTC)I like how you touched on some of the more horrific parts of the war. They were important enough that they had to be mentioned, but they would have been really, really difficult to set up and film.
I'm so glad that Nick survived! It was so hard to guess from the other (cryptic) drabbles you've done whether he was going to make it or not. Steven is adorable too.
I read it late last night - just before bed - and it made such an impression that it got incorporated into my dreams!

on 2013-05-03 11:42 pm (UTC)Thanks.
Heh. This whole plotline has been haunting my dreams for a while, so I can understand what happened to you last night.

on 2013-05-05 01:39 pm (UTC)Loved your update! I agree with all the comments above. I'll try not to repeat all of them. :)
So glad Nick survived, I was really worried!
Steve is just too cute!

I can’t wait to see what his brothers/sisters look like.

on 2013-05-05 05:51 pm (UTC)I was seriously scared for Nick for a while there precisely because I knew Alice was pregnant when he left, but I am glad he made it and that he and Steven get the chance to really know each other.
Can't wait to see how Danny did!

on 2013-05-05 11:38 pm (UTC)You were supposed to feel scared for Nick – I’m an evil person and I wanted to make people worry about whether or not he’d come back. I tried really hard with some of the pictures, so I’m glad you liked thim.

on 2013-05-09 03:04 am (UTC)*breaths HUGE sigh of relief* Holy Cow Heidi this was an awesome chapter!
Can't wait for the last two installments!

on 2013-05-09 08:18 pm (UTC)I think everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief when they finished the chapter.
Yeah, he rolled 3. Talk about cutting it close!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting.

on 2013-05-30 04:09 pm (UTC)I think everyone is happy that Nick made it out alive. It was tempting to kill him off for plot, but the randomizer spared him, and I’m glad it did. I’m glad they get to have a happy ending.
Heh. That little plot bunny popped into my head and it was too good not use. I know I said that my extras would “remember” their home legacies, but it was nice to be able to put them into roles that fit their past experiences.

on 2013-06-03 11:53 pm (UTC)Yeah, Nick shouldn't worry about short letters - I think they're happy just to know he's alive and doing well!
(To be Continued.)

on 2013-06-03 11:53 pm (UTC)I am amused that Buzz Grunt is in the army. :P
Lovely long chapter, can't wait for more, and I'm glad you didn't kill Nick!

on 2013-06-07 12:47 am (UTC)No, Nick shouldn’t worry about short letters, but he’s Nick so he does.
I think it’s safe to say that she’s a very different person than she was in her younger years, and it’s not just because she lost her husband.

on 2013-06-07 07:00 am (UTC)Yeah, filming any Holocaust stuff, even the aftermath, would be hard.
:) I did read Dotty's chapter; you'll hopefully get a comment on that Saturday or Monday, from work (as usual).

on 2013-06-07 03:51 pm (UTC)Yeah, the morning sickness thing is hard not to do.
:D I'll await your comment on Dotty's chapter eagerly.

on 2013-06-07 12:49 am (UTC)Chapter order?
